Alexander Kaganovsky was born in Kiev Ukraine. He had his first music lessons at the age of five. Only a few years later he played as a soloist for the first time, and at the age of 16 he won the Ukraine Competition. After immigrating to Israel he continued his studies at the Tel-Aviv Rubin Academy of Music with Prof. Uzi Weisel and won first prize at the Academy's competition. In 1985 he was awarded first prize in the Israel Broadcasting competition, and since that year he has also been a member of the acclaimed Israeli String Quartet. Alexander Kaganovsky has participated in numerous festivals both in Israel and internationally, such as Klangbogen Festival in Vienna (Austria), Catania Festival (Italy), Novosibirsk Festival (Russia) and Kartago Festival (Tunis). He has played with all the major orchestras in Israel, and he has given recitals and perfomed as soloist with orchestras in Germany, France, Italy, Luxemburg, Belgium, Switzerland, Austira, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, USAm South America, Japan, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Russia, Slovakia, Macedonia, The Czech Republic, and Russia. He has given master classes at Moulin d'Aande (Musical Summer at the Mill -France), in Rolandseck (Germany), Bratislava(Slovakia), at the Unesco master class under guidance of Yehudi Menuhin, at the European Music Academy in Schengen(Luxembourg), at the cello seminar in Israel (Israel cello society), and also in Japan,Switzerland,Ukraine and Israel. He has played as a soloist with many known conductors such as: Gary Bertini, Hughes Wolf, Charles Growys, David Robertson, Rudolf Barshai, Dimitri Kitayenko, Mendi Rodan, Arnold Katz, Andrey Boreyko, Simon Friedman, Ernst Bour, Nathan Rachlin, Doron Salomon, Shalom R. Riklis, Avner Biron, Jacques Martin Handler and Stanley Sperber. His wide repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music, and some pieces have been especially written for him. Kaganovsky has made many recordings for radio, TV and CD, among them CDs recorded by ZPEX and J.O.D. Japan. Since 1998 Alexander Kaganovsky is living in Switzerland.
