Michel Strauss, considered as one of the most accomplished cellist of his generation, studied in France and in the United States. Cello professor at the Paris Conservatoire since 1987, an entire generation of musicians have followed his lessons and masterclasses in the United States, Asia but also in France especially in Normandie where his festival offers an exceptionnal occasion for young intrumentalists to perform.
First solo cello in the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio-France in 1980, he also performs with many orchestra not only in France but also oround the world. He premiered several concertos who were dedicated to him.
Attracted by chamber music, he played with many artists among them Henriette Puig-Roget, Tibor Varga, Georges Pludermacher, Gerard Jarry, Aldo Parisot, Serge Collot, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Gerard Causse, Bruno Pasquier and the legendary Sandor Vegh. Michel Strauss performed in most of the French festivals and the most famous concert halls abroad.
He worked with some of major contemporary creators such as Luciano Berio, Maurice Bejart, Pierre Boulez... He is also very interested by performing arts, he collaborated with Jean-Luc Godard regarding cinema and the musical theatre in Avignon.
His eclectic vision of music and his natural charisma makes him a very demanded master that young virtuosos beginning their career look for. Michel Strauss is the musical director of the International Festival of Chamber Music << Musique de Chambre a Giverny >>.
